Living Room Vastu Tips

Every living and non-living object including the space in between has energy. That and the understanding of these energies in correlation to spaces and directions are an essential part of the ancient science of Vastu Shastra. Even the placement of furniture can play an important role in influencing the vibe of a home. These are some essential vastu tips that can help you organise your furniture in such a manner that you usher in positivity, prosperity and health.

The man and the lady of the house should have their seating arrangement in the South-West corner facing East or North-East of the room. This will ensure stability and facilitate the flow of positive energy

Seating for guests should be in the North-West or South-East. In case this is tough, one can place the furniture in the North-East, so they face South, West or South-West. This helps the owner of the home to be in control of any situation

Keep North and East as empty as possible. Make South and West heavy by placing furniture there

Keep the television set in the North-East on a lightweight and attractive table or unit

Some people tend to keep the television set in every room. That should be avoided as it could bring about friction amongst family members

10 crucial vastu tips for your child’s study room

Study room vastu tips for Childrens

vastu principles that can help improve your child's concentration and set the right atmosphere for him to study well

We often hear parents complaining about their child's performance with the change of school, room or house but they barely pay attention to the change in directions that come with this move. Up to a great extent, the performance of a child is linked to the direction they face while studying and the ambiance of their room. It is not the duration of time a child spends on studies, but their concentration and grasping power that help. Having a suitable atmosphere in the study room which can improve their concentration level and learning capacity, is important.

Important Tips

• The study room should always be facing the east or west direction of the house, north is the second best direction.

• The child should face east or north while studying and all their rewards and recognitions, certificates, trophies and motivational posters should be displayed on the north or east wall. No beam or cabinet should be over their study table.

• Do not have a door right behind the study chair. Instead, have a wall behind it.

• The study table should have an open area in front, if that's not possible and table has to be along the wall, then leave a slight gap between the study table and the adjoining wall for circulation of energies.

• Don't let the child stare at an empty wall in the front, and, hang a poster on the wall that motivates them.

• The study table should be square or rectangular in shape and clear quartz can be kept on the table to enhance the child's concentration.

• Keep east and north walls light while south and west walls can have cupboard or storage cabinets for books. Do not stack books on the study table; instead keep them in a closed cabinet.

• The table lamp should be kept on the left of the study table, to ensure light without hindrance, and computer should either be in southeast or northwest of the table.

• There should not be any mirror visible from the study table; it causes distraction.

• Colours used in the study room should be pastel and subtle. For eastern room, pale yellow and off white can be used, violet for north-east room and pastel green for a study room in north is advised. Off-white, white, ivory are the most positive colours for the study room.

-----------------------

Study Room and Study Table

The study room can be in the West, North-West, West of South-West.

These days, in many houses, a study table is small and attached to a wall. The presence of a wall isn't good. A protruding cupboard from the wall (and the adjoining study table) produces energy fields that exert pressure on a child's concentration while studying. This kind of arrangement should be totally avoided

Let there be an open space in front of the study table. This helps in concentrating better

Arrange the furniture in such a way that while studying, the child is facing the East or North

The table can be placed near a wall, but ensure there isn't any protruding cupboard from the wall

Bedrooms Vastu Tips

 Vastu for Bedrooms

Vastu for Bedrooms: 14 Tips and Remedies That Will Help You Sleep Well

Here are 14 simple tips and remedies, according to Vastu for bedrooms, for you to follow.

A. Direction of bedroom, according to Vastu

The master bedroom should ideally be located in the south-west corner of the home, as it is linked with good health, longevity and prosperity.

North-west is also a good option and suits the guest bedroom or your children’s bedroom best.

Bedrooms in the south-east or north-east corners must be avoided as these can lead to health issues and conflicts at home.

Is your bedroom in the north-east? Here are a few remedies. Use lavender incense or aroma in the room; it is believed to fight Vastu defects in the north-east. You can also place a bowl of sea salt in the room to help offset the Vastu dosh. Pictures of Lord Ganesh or Goddess Lakshmi will ensure that the room is filled with positive energy.

B. Bed direction, shape and position, as per Vastu

Place the bed in the south-west zone. Ensure that when you’re sleeping, your head is in the south or in the east. This is how your body soaks up positive vibrations. Sleeping with your head in the north is a strict no-no, as per Vastu.

It is recommended that the bed be made of wood, and it is either shaped like a square or a rectangle.

Don’t place the bed directly under a beam. However, if you can’t help it, then it is a good idea to design a false ceiling for the bedroom.

Don’t place the bed too close to the walls; there must be enough space to access the bed from both sides.

C. Mirrors, wardrobes and dressers

Place wardrobes in the south-west area of the bedroom, in such a way that the door swings open to the east or to the south.

Mirrors in the bedroom should not face the bed. It’s not considered auspicious as per Vastu to have a reflection of your sleeping self. The northern or eastern wall is a good place for mirrors.

Keep valuables in the north direction as this is where Kuber or the lord of wealth resides.

Do you have a dresser with a mirror? Place the dresser next to the bed instead of facing the bed.

De-clutter the bedroom and only keep items that have a positive impact. If your bed has a storage option, use it for useful things (and those full of happy memories) so that you are well rested at night.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Bedroom

The bed(s) should be in the South-West corner of the room

The wardrobes can be placed along the South or West walls. The doors of these wardrobes should open towards East or North

The air-conditioner, TV set, room-coolers, and other electrical gadgets can be placed in the South-East of the bedroom

The dressing table should be in the South or West and the mirror should be kept covered as much as possible. While sleeping, any reflection from the mirror should be avoided since it leads to poor health

Provision of a mezzanine in the bedroom is ideal, though one should ensure that the person sleeping in the bedroom should have a full view of the ceiling. A beam, loft or any such other structure should not be over the body of the person sleeping

A study or work-table can be kept in the North to the East part of the room

It isn't advisable to keep a television set in the bedroom

It is preferable to have one big bed with a single mattress. In the case of beds joined together, a single bedsheet should be spread to cover both the beds

Vastu Tips For a Healthy Kitchen

Simple & Effective Vastu Tips For a Healthy Kitchen

Kitchen Direction

It’s best to place your kitchen in the southeast direction, as this is where Agni or the lord of fire reigns supreme. If that’s not possible, north west works as well. As Madhuri points out, the south east direction has the combination of the sun and Mars, and the resultant energy kills germs and contributes to good health.

Try not to locate the kitchen in the north, south west or north east direction, as that can lead to domestic upheavals and rifts in the family.

However, does your kitchen (for some unavoidable reason) face the north or the north east direction?

Don’t worry! Remedy it to some extent by placing the stove in the southeast direction, and ensuring that the north east corner is clutter-free. If the design permits, extend the north east corner to make space for a pooja room or a wash area. And if there’s a window in the north east, ensure that it’s kept open at all times.

For a west or north facing house, place the kitchen along the north west direction, so that you look towards the north while cooking. If your house faces the east or the south, the best place for the kitchen would be the south east.

One must always face the east while cooking. Therefore, cooking appliances like microwave ovens and gas stoves need to be aligned along this direction, adds Madhuri.

Place the kitchen sink along the north or north east direction. Don’t place it on the same or parallel direction as that of the cooking platform. As per Vastu Shastra, fire and water oppose each other and can have negative consequences if both elements are placed together.

If the stove and sink are close to each other, place a bone china vase between them as a remedy.

Vastu Colours for Kitchen

Avoid the colour black in the kitchen; instead opt for colours such as yellow, orange, pink and brown.

Bonus Tip!

Ensure that the windows open out to the east or the north for natural light, adds Madhuri.

--------------------------------------

Kitchen
The ideal place for storage of provisions, grains, and other things is in the North-West or South-West regions of the kitchen

Keep the dining table in the North-West so that people dining can face the East, which is good according to vastu

These days, with modular kitchen and trolley systems, food grains are stored in cupboards above the kitchen platform or in the trolleys. In such cases, keep at least five types of grains in the North-West corner. This will ensure that there is no shortage of food in the house

The garbage bin should be kept in the North-West corner of the house. If it is kept in the kitchen, place it in the same direction. If that isn't possible, keep the garbage bin in any location other than North-East.

Dining Room
The kitchen should be in the South-East and the dining room, in the North-West. The practice of placing a dining table near the kitchen that is in the East of South-East or in the South is not ideal

A square or rectangular wooden dining table is the best

It is better if one faces the East or North while eating food

Do not keep the dining table in the centre of the house or in the kitchen

While eating, do not sit beneath a beam or loft.

Do not keep a television set in front of the dining table. Avoid watching anything while eating

Vastu for Toilets & Bathrooms: 15+ Helpful Tips for Your Indian Home

Here are 15+ simple tips, as per Vastu for toilets and bathrooms, that will help you.

A. Direction of Toilet, Doors and Shower, According to Vastu

1. The best location for toilets and bathrooms is the north-west part of the home.

2. Avoid constructing toilets in the south-west direction as this tends to bring about ill-effects.

If your toilet happens to be in the south-west direction, you can fix it by using a couple of Vastu remedies. For instance, place a Vastu pyramid on the outer part of the south-west toilet wall. Another option is to keep the doors of the toilet closed at all times.

3. Make sure that the entrance door to the toilet is along the eastern or northern wall.

4. The best direction of the toilet seat, according to Vastu, is in the south-east or north-west side. This should be in such a way that a person using it is not facing either the east or the west.

5. Windows should open out along the east, north or west in your bathroom.

6. Constructing the toilet a couple of feet above the ground is a good idea.

7. Ensure that the toilet is positioned along the west or north-west, for a bathroom and toilet attached space. This is because the toilet is associated with the discarding of waste.

8. The shower or wash basin needs to be in the east, north or north-east of the bathroom.

9. Ensure that the toilet does not share a wall with the pooja room or the kitchen, as it can have negative repercussions.

10. Outlets for bathroom pipes must be towards the north or the east.

B. Bathroom Vastu for Mirrors, Colours & More

11. The north or the east is the best place in the bathroom to hang a mirror. You could position your wash-basin accordingly.

12. Light pastel shades work best for the bathroom, as per Vastu. Colours such as pink, grey and light blue are recommended.

13. Never construct a toilet under a staircase. The space under the stairs can be used for storage purposes but a bathroom or toilet is a strict no-no.

14. Always use wooden doors as entrance doors to toilet or bathrooms, as metal has negative vibrations.

15. Position an attached bathroom to the west or north. Remember that the bathroom should not face the bed.
